The Great Outdoors (where to hike /chase waterfalls)
Star Lake Trail is located right off Hwy K and is 15 min from the cabin. There is a two mile loop that follows the lake and a one mile loop. The loop that follows the lake offers amazing views and many areas to enter the shallow and clear water. About one mile into the two mile loop there is a picnic table and great place to swim!
This can be a great day trip! Loads of trails to hike, waterfalls and Lake Superior. Check out the Lake of the Clouds while you're there.
Bond Falls is a well known attraction! There is a nice path to walk and if you're looking for more hiking you can climb up the falls (on a trail).
Kakabika Falls is about 40 min from the cabin. It's a remote trail that follows a creek full of small and beautiful. The trail itself is short and tends to be very buggy so be prepared!
Canyon Falls is an hour and 20 min from the cabin but is worth the drive. The trail is 4 miles out and back and follows a creek full of rocks you can walk over. Rumor has it that at the very end there is a swimming hole with a rope.
Oh Kun de Kun Falls is about 50 min north of the cabin and can be hard to find! The trail is part of the North Country Trail which spans much of the United States! The falls are at the end of a leisurely 1.3 mile trail.
Hungarian Falls is more of a day trip if you're headed to Houghton. It's located in Hubbell, MI and while the trail is beautiful, the real draw are the falls where you can swim. The water is crisp and cold!
Agate Falls is about 45 min from the cabin and is part of a roadside park. It's viewable from a paved trail and observation deck.
We are rock hounds and LOVE spending time on the shores of Lake Superior looking for agates. This park /beach is a great and beautiful place. Beware sometimes the biting flies can be out - bring spray to ensure you enjoy your time!
